Wild Dark Shore

I was really excited to read Wild Dark Shore—the description promised a “tangled mystery,” and I was ready for something dark, emotional, and well - tangled. I’ve heard great things about Charlotte McConaghy’s writing, so I had pretty high hopes going in.

There were definitely things I liked about the book. The story felt really unique, and I appreciated the variety of characters, from young kids to burdened adults and the way their lives intertwined. The atmosphere was moody and windswept, and I could tell a lot of thought went into building this world.

But honestly, I spent most of the book waiting for something big to happen. I kept expecting the plot to take off or surprise me in some way, but it never quite did. The pacing felt slow, and even though the emotional moments were strong, I was left feeling underwhelmed overall.

It wasn’t a bad book, just not what I was hoping for. I still think McConaghy has a really interesting voice, and I’d be open to reading more of her work—this one just didn’t fully land for me.
